At New Covenant Fellowship Church our faith and belief is not about obeying a set of rules or conducting laid down rituals; it is all about Jesus – having a loving relationship and walking through life with Him.
Most of us can see that the world is in a mess, a mess caused by selfishness in our hearts and in the hearts of others. People are self-centred; economics, profit and possessions matter more than loving relationships and the wellbeing of others; the scars from our past, our own experiences of being ill-treated or even rejected seem to determine how we act. And we feel powerless to change things.
This is not how it is supposed to be. In the beginning, we were created in the image of a loving God, depended on Him, and lived in relationship with Him. When we chose to go our own way, we had to depend on ourselves and lost our relationship with God. On our own, there is nothing we can do to restore this relationship.
Jesus came to mend our relationship with God. He died on the cross and took all our wrongs, making a way back to God for us all. This is not something that we achieved; it is a free gift from God.
Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.
1 Peter 3:18
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
How can I be saved and have peace with God?
As we said above, Jesus died on the cross to make a way back to God for us – a free gift from God. But we have to do something; we have to accept this gift.
If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved.
To be saved and make your peace with God and be in relationship with Him again, simply talk to Him, tell him how you are feeling, that you believe in Jesus and want Him to rule in your life.
We suggest a prayer like this:
“Dear God, I’m sorry for the things I’ve done wrong in my life.
I ask for your forgiveness and turn away from everything I know is wrong.
Thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross to clean up my past and set me free from it, and to enable me to get back to you.
I thank you that Jesus is alive today and ask Him to come by faith into my life and be with me forever as my saviour, Lord and King.
Thank you. Amen”
When you say this prayer from your heart and commit yourself to obeying Jesus as Lord of your life, your past is forgiven, you are given God’s Holy Spirit to guide, strengthen and equip you for life, and are adopted into God’s own family as His children and members of His kingdom. This means that you are in a new family, God’s family, with many brothers and sisters in Christ.
The best thing to do now is meet others who are on a similar journey, who are your spiritual brothers and sisters. We’d love you to join us on Sunday and introduce you to some great people just like you. Let us know you’re coming on Sunday and we’ll look out for you and make sure you feel welcome.
If you have prayed this prayer, do come and meet us
Join us this Sunday at our 10.30 am or 6.30 pm service; we can’t wait to meet you.
